Utah Running Guru Hawk Harper
Running Accomplishments:
Winning the 1984 St. George Marathon, Winning the 50 Mile Series in Utah, State Record Holder in the Double Marathon 52.4 miles (This record still stands today).Personal Profile: Born in Portsmouth, VA, Hawk grew up a Navy Brat living in Virginia, Florida, Missouri, California, and Nevada. He graduated from Mojave HS, CA and attended Dixie State as well as BYU. He played college football and baseball as well as semi-pro baseball. He started running around age 30 as a 240 lb weightlifter when he was told by a friend if he was a "real man" he would run the Las Vegas marathon in a few weeks. He decided to be a real man. Hawk is married to his lovely wife of 25 years, Cheryl. They have 4 children with the oldest 3 already amassing 13 Individual State Titles. Summer, the youngest, may amass nearly that many herself! Hawk loves running more than just about anybody. His favorite books are the Book of Mormon and Ivanhoe. His hobbies are running, reading about running, more running, talking about running, teaching people about running, and running. Oh, and he's a great cook too. Hawk is a very devoted family man and is very dedicated to his Church assignments. He loves talking to people and helping others and as a result never gets home (or anywhere else for that matter) on time!
